“Super Signer”

MSH Fan of the month!

Is your child a “Super Signer”? Are you a fan of MSH? If so, email me at laura@mysmarthands.com with your video or picture and a little blurb about signing and we’ll feature your little one on our home page as our “Super Signer” of the month!

Laura,

My son, Jimmy, took to the computer at an early age.  In order to make thing easy for him I set him up with some favorites to toddler learning sites.  Well he

stumbled on pictures of the alphabet with corresponding signs.  He liked it so much that I decided to find a 'site' that would be both easy to use and provide easy to follow examples.   Soon as I found your site, www.mysmarthands.com, my son spent hours on it!  He went thru all of the links and whenever he can he'll remind me of the words/phrases that he's learned!    He especially likes to watch your daughter demonstrate too!  We have turned signing into a daily game!

Thanks so much

Dan

As a proud mom I wanted to share the signing success with my second child, Hartford. He started signing ‘milk’ at 6 months and I was amazed. His big sister, Fireese, has been signing with him since he was born (as well as his mommy and daddy). We were all so proud of our little man!

I can’t wait to see all the videos that we are receiving of your Super Signers!

Thanks so much

"We started signing with Ethan at 4 months old.  However, he didn't really

take off with signing until 13.5 months old, and then it was like a light

went off and there was no stopping him! Thank goodness that I already knew a

lot of sign language to keep up and teach him all the signs he wanted to

learn every day.

As he has gotten older and started talking I have seen that he continues to

sign and continues to love learning new signs.  I have seen Fireese in the

MSH videos and how she has continued to sign as she has gotten older, and so

we have kept teaching him more and more, most recently we have been working

on the sign language alphabet."

“Baby signing has been an amazing source of communication for Kylee and I since she was 10 months old.  She started singing at 10 months and has never looked back.  Her vocabulary is over 250 words at the age of 18 months!  I think that is amazing!  Her frustration has been very limited because she is able to tell me everything she wants.  If she points at something, but my husband and I don't know what she is wanting we just ask her to use her sings.  95% of the time she is able to sign exactly what she is wanting.  She is almost 19 months old and is now signing songs with mommy and beginning to work on her alphabet.  Everyday she amazes me and I know that singing with her is contributed to so many of her accomplishments.  I can't wait to see what other great things she accomplishes.”

We were already excited about the prospect of having our first child, Harry, and after stumbling across the youtube video of Fireese signing at 11 months we became even more so.  We looked forward communicating with Harry before he could use verbal language.

I downloaded some of Laura's videos and began practising the alphabet and some 'food words'.  When Harry was 6 months old we started using sign language with him at every opportunity.  It wasn't long before he was signing 'milk' and 'light', and that was an amazing turning point for all of us.

Now Harry is almost 14 months old, and he seems to get a new word every other day - we're finding it hard to keep up.  I often visit the my smart hands web-dictionary to learn the sign for the new thing Harry is interested in or eating.

Harry finds signing useful at day care, where we're teaching the staff Harry's signs as he learns each one.  Today they said he was chatting all afternoon in sign, including using some signs he made up himself with a meaning only known to him.

Thanks Laura,

"I came across Fireese Video clip in Youtube last year and started to sign to my baby~Thou on his 5 months. I will sign to him whenever he needs milk, water, eat, more, please, thank you etc. My boy didn't sign back to me till he was 10 months. Out of my surprise, on his 10th months he able to sign everything he needs, which reduce frustration to me and the caretaker.

By coincidence, I recorded this video while we were waiting for the traffic on our way back home some day after my boy first birthday. Hand signing proven that my baby~Thou is able to "talk" before he can talk! He is 14 months now and able to sign more than 20 signs. Due to the benefits of hand signing, my boy started potty training after his first birthday and able to sign whenever he need to go toilet. He is successfully potty trained on his 13th months.

I will continue to sign to my baby~Thou as baby hand sign decrease frustration and help my baby to talk!

Many thanks to Laura ^_^
