Ingrid Lopez - Yucatan, Mexico
My name is Ingrid Lopez and I was born and raised in Yucatan, Mexico. Helping, teaching and interacting with people are some of the characteristics that describe me as a person. From an early age I discovered my vocation and pursued it by learning about physical and mental rehabilitation. One of the fascinating things about rehabilitation is that it does not discriminate ages. From helping to stimulate babies using vibrant colors, to teaching the elderly to walk once again is for me an unexplainable satisfaction.
I broadened my experience with a year in special education. While conducting practices close to children with special needs, I understood the importance for a child of being able to communicate and express themselves, and the impact it can have on their personal development.
After marrying I moved to California, USA and continued my studies. It was there where I first faced communication barriers. While I learned the language, I felt frustrated when others could not fully understand me. At the same time I was first exposed to sign language through some friends. They used sign language to help people with hearing impairments and they also applied that same knowledge with their children. Watching children express themselves before they can talk fascinated me.
With the birth of my daughter, Camila, I immediately wanted to supply her with the best tools for her development. Teaching her Spanish, English and ASL I enjoy watching the development of my baby and how every day she becomes more expressive. I began to teach Camila sign language at 7 months and her first sign was at 9 months, she asked for "papá". It is a great satisfaction to know that my baby can tell me what she wants well before she learns to speak.
The benefits of sign language for your baby are immeasurable in the short and long term. These benefits may include the development of psychomotor and intellectual abilities. It helps with their vocabulary at a very young age, and allows your baby to express their needs and emotions. My Smart Hands is a comprehensive, fun and easy to follow program for both babies and parents. You will find that the classes are very interactive and are a great place to meet other parents!
I look forward to sharing the benefits of sign language for babies with other parents in Mexico. You will be surprised by the opportunities this method provides for you and your baby. What are you waiting for, contact me today at Ingrid@mysmarthands.com.
