Maritsa Uys - South Africa
Maritsa is a very outgoing and warm person and her life is filled with love. She sees life in a very positive way, and she lives life as if every day is her last day!
Maritsa was born and raised in South Africa. After she matriculated in 2002, she travelled to Europe where she gained valuable experience in many different fields, including supply teaching, coffee shop supervisor and as a receptionist in a fitness club.
After completing her 2 year visitor Visa in the United Kingdom, Maritsa decided to study teaching, for her passion in life has always been to teach kids.
In 2004 she did a Bachelor Degree in Foundation Phase. Maritsa’s love for kids during those four years grew even bigger. Maritsa say: “It is such a good feeling knowing that you are instrumental in helping those kids to create their own basic fundamental skills (e.g. on a physical-, emotional- and social-level).” During her course she also studied more about Learners with Special Needs, and she think signing can be a great apparatus for those learners as well.
After her studies in 2008, she realized that her travelling days were not over yet and she travelled to the Middle East in 2009.
At present Maritsa is teaching at Muscat International School, Oman for a KG2 class. Maritsa love working with kids from different cultures in one class, and it’s truly amazing. She realized just how unique each child is.
Maritsa met a friend in Muscat, Azelene Williams, who has a little girl, Sian, who she taught baby signing. When Azelene introduced her to Baby Signing, she was very sceptical because from her experience there was no way a little 1 year old can do all those signs. Until she saw it for herself. She was amazed!!!
It was just there and then when Maritsa decided she want to teach parents this great technique in communicating with their babies. It will mean no more frustration between the parents and the baby, and no more guessing, what it is their Baby need.
Maritsa joined with My Smart Hands in May 2009 but unfortunately they were not able to start classes in Oman due to the H1N1 case.
Maritsa is now returning back to South Africa she will be located in Cape Town and she can’t wait for the new challenge to begin!
